Graduates-2026. Umaya Samaraweera: «Trust your Alma mater and she will carry you high!»

08 june 2026 — 09:16

A candidate for a Diploma with Honors, a recipient of a scholarship from the Belarusian Peace Foundation, studied for almost all six years with only grade 10.

I’m Umaya Samaraweera, from class of 2026.

I arrived at Grodno on the 27th of September 2020, a day that still feels like yesterday to me. I anticipated a culture shock but to my surprise I didn’t. I must say Belarus was very welcoming.

Throughout my years I’ve been fortunate enough to participate in many scientific conferences, Olympiads and publish many research articles, which would not have been possible without the constant support of my teachers.

I was also given the honor of being a part of the University Council and to be a recipient of a scholarship from the Belarusian Peace Foundation, for which I’m very grateful.

I must thank our Dean Aleksander Aleksandrovich Stenko, Vice-deans Liudmila Nikolaevna Gushchyna, Zoya Petrovna Lemiasheuskaya and Zoya Nikolaevna Marchenko for their unwavering support throughout.

The education and clinical knowledge are abundant and up to date.

As I prepare to leave, I look back with a heavy heart knowing that I’m going to miss everything about Grodno and my University that has been like family to me from day one.

I decided to follow the footsteps of my father, hence I chose to do medicine and I can confidently state that Grodno State Medical University was the best choice.

I am very honored and proud to be a graduate of GrSMU, and I hope to make my University proud!

To all the juniors, TRUST YOUR ALMA MATER AND SHE WILL CARRY YOU HIGH!!!
