2022 World AIDS Day

The disease caused by HIV remains a major public health issue that affects millions of people worldwide.  EQUALIZE was the World AIDS Day Theme in 2022 to put an accent on the efforts to fight AIDS and to equalise access to vital HIV services for all groups of human population. The theme underlines that it is mandatory to provide everyone with access to HIV services including testing, treatment, and prevention.

The students mini-conference dedicated to the World AIDS Day took place on the 29th of November 2022 at the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology named after S.I. Gelberg. The third year international students of the 22nd group took an active part in the event. The conference aim was to increase students’ knowledge of the situation with HIV, its epidemiology, prevention, new approaches to treatment, as well as the problems of stigma and discrimination of the people living with HIV.

Three students of the group 22 made the next presentations:

  1. Fernando Abarrane (Sri Lanka) “HIV: epidemiological situation in Sri Lanka”

 

  1. Ezenwobi Favour Somtochukwu (Nigeria) “HIV: can the patients live well?”

  1. Nethuki Kulasinghe (Sri Lanka) “HIV: forty one years since the epidemic”

All students of the group actively participated in the panel discussions on the topics of presented talks that made the mini-conference more life, interesting and efficient.
