University Structure Departments Department of Internal Medicine II

The Department of Internal Medicine II is a structural unit of Faculty of Mental Health Medicine. The Department is located at Grodno City Clinical Hospital No2, Grodno City Clinical Hospital No4, Grodno City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Care, Grodno Central City Polyclinic. It consists of 14 training rooms, laboratory (computer class) and functional diagnostics room.

The Department of Internal Medicine II provides training in Internal Medicine (cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology) and Clinical Pathological Physiology for 4th-year students of Faculty of General Medicine, also Internal Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, Emergency Care and choice course for 6th-year students of Faculty of General Medicine.

4th- and 5th-year students of Faculty of Mental Health Medicine, Faculty of Medical Diagnostics, and Faculty of Pediatrics have classes in Internal Diseases, Military field therapy and Outpatients Therapy at our Department. 1st- and 2nd-year students of Faculty of Mental Health Medicine, Faculty of Medical Diagnostics have classes in First Aid and Medical Care and handling equipment.

The Students of Faculty for International Students study the following disciplines: Internal Medicine (224 academic hours, 5,5 credit units), Clinical Pathological Physiology (38 academic hours, 1 credit unit), optional course on ECG (30 academic hours), optional course (108 academic hours, 3 credit units).

According to the curriculum test questions are compiled, which are used in current knowledge control and during an exam. Guidelines and information block for students are prepared which include control questions and questions for guided independent work of students.

The department published manuals to ensure optimization of the preparation for disciplines.

Electronic educational-methodical complexes on disciplines are developed and placed in the e-learning system (www.edu.grsmu.by).

Exam

According to the Curriculum all students have an exam at the end of the course of Internal Medicine – in VIII semester for students of Faculty of General Medicine in IX semester for students of Faculty of Pediatrics, in IX semester for students of Faculty of Medical Diagnostics, in X semester – for students of Faculty of Mental Health Medicine.

The Students of Faculty for International Students have an exam at the end of the course of Internal Medicine in VIII semester. Exam is composed of pre-exam computer test and oral part with ECG assessment.

Postgraduate education

Specialists of our Department provide Postgraduate Training in Internal Medicine for GP as well as we propose to have Internal Medicine Residency Program at our Department.


Rules and regulations for students

Students are requested to come at list 10 minutes before classes to the laboratory assistant room of the Department, to take the key of their classroom and prepare for classes. Students are expected to show up for a class on time. Being late is forbidden and equal to missing classes.

Students are expected to leave their outdoor wear and big bags in the student cloakroom.

Students are expected to be dressed in clean dress and shoes. Students should have medical uniform (white lab coat, second pair of shoes (shoe covers), medical cap, mask) and stethoscope. Distracting perfumes are not recommended.

Students should keep quiet during classes and visiting patients in clinic. No personal mobile phones are allowed in class. No sending messages are allowed.

Students are expected to keep their classroom clean and all equipment serviceable.


Every year the best students of the Department demonstrate obtained knowledge participating in academic competitions (Subject Olympiads) in Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, and Internal Medicine. There is also an interactive Internet Olympiad in “Internal Diseases" organized by the Department academic staff.
