The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of Grodno State Medical University was organized on the 1st of August 1960. Since its foundation, the Department is located on the base of the First City Clinical Hospital in Grodno (now - Grodno Regional Clinical Hospital of Medical Rehabilitation). Professor N.I. Schwartz was the first heard of the Department during 1960-1963 years. Professor G.V. Kulago was heard of the Department from 1963 to 1986 year. From 1986 to 2012 years the Department was headed by Professor M.A. Lis. Associate Professor, MD, Ph.D. T.P.Pronko is heard of the Department from 2012 year to the present days.

From 1963 to 1986 next Associate Professors worked at the Department: D.F. Kulish, I.F. Mironchik, D.E. Boreisha, I.M. Gushcha, G.M. Aver, V.I. Dedul, E.N. Kezun, M.A. Dobrodey, V.N. Kovalenko. I.I. Ilyina, E.N. Hotim, A.I. Shevchuk, T.N. Jakubczik, S.I. Lokashik work as assistant Professors. During this period, the department staff paid special attention to the development and improvement of educational work with students, methodically correct formulation of the pedagogical process, development of student's practical skills. Methodical recommendations, manuals and other developments on all program questions of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases were published.

From 1986 to 2012 the department staff were widened, new persons came: Y.T. Solonenko (PhD, associate Professor), K.Y. Konkol (Professor), A.S. Skrenda, (PhD, associate Professor), V.I. Ilkevic (assistant), K.N. Sokolov (PhD, associate Professor), S. A. Kotova (PhD, assistant), E.A. Balla (assistant), I.V. Grishkevich (assistant), T.P. Pronko (PhD, associate Professor), A.V. Pyrochkin (PhD, assistant), A.V. Boltach (PhD, associate Professor), E.M. Surmacz (PhD, associate Professor); assistants: O.I. Pijewskaja, N.V. Sichko, O.V. Otlivanova, I.I. Gorovenko, E.E. Poplavskaya, O.P. Kurbat. The staff of the Department has kept and continued the tradition of a clear organization of the pedagogical process. Teaching was conducted not only at the medical, but also at the pediatric, medical-psychological and medical-diagnostic faculties, faculty of foreign students. Employees of the Department have developed and approved programs on Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases and the Basics of Patient Care in all the mentioned above faculties.

Since 2012 new staff assistants came: G.S. Taub, M.Y. Sélun, T.V. Levkovich, E.N. Maksimovich, J.Z. Shwed, L.Ch, Cruchko, M.G. Kuchura, Y.L. Karpovich, V.A. Sobolevsky, L.N. Smirnova, A.N. Alexejuk. Still much attention is paid to the pedagogical process. Employees of the Department began to actively implement in the educational process innovative methods and forms of training aimed at the development of educational, cognitive and communicative competence of students (methods of group communication using the forum, on-line testing), the group "Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases" in the social network Vkontakte. Videos with practical skills how to examine patients was done and placed in YouTube. Material and technical base of the Department were updated. For conducting practical classes and independent work, there are 9 computers, 1 laptop, 2 Sony tape recorders, and an Epson projector. Students have the opportunity to conduct ECG studies on 2 electrocardiographs (Altonik 06), to use an electronic stethoscope for auscultation of patients. There are mechanical tonometers for measuring blood pressure and 1 electronic (Wateh BP03), peak flow meters and spirograph. There are two computer programs for auscultation of the lungs and heart, 60 laminated posters for different classes. There were published several text-books for students on Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases and Basics of Patient Care in Russian and English languages.

Since the organization of the Department 2 doctoral dissertation, 23 PhD thesis’s were prepared. 12 scientific conferences were organized. International cooperation is carried out with the cardiology clinic of Bialystok Medical University (Republic of Poland).
