Students Celebrated Eid al-Fitr

24 march 2026 — 13:45

On March 20, atmosphere of joy and unity reigned among Muslim students of various National Unions of our Faculty, as they gathered to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr is one of the most significant holidays in Islam, marking the end of Ramadan. The holiday begins with a special collective prayer, followed by expressions of gratitude, gatherings with loved ones and, of course, good deeds.

Despite the shared faith, each national cultural tradition has its own unique celebrations.

For example, in the Maldives, this day is traditionally celebrated with vibrant street festivities, including dancing, costumed performances and treats sharing. Following the established tradition, the Maldivians also began the event with a costumed performance “Maali Neshun”, in which students wearing costumes and masks represented spirits and ghosts dancing to traditional Boduberu music. This was followed by sports competitions and games typical of Maldivian culture.

Unlike the Maldivians, students of the Multinational Students Union, primarily represented by Turkmens, held ceremonial events indoors.

They greeted guests with traditional “pishme” (deep-fried pieces of dough) and treated them to “dograma” (a mixture of finely chopped lamb, fresh onions and special bread called “chorek” topped with hot broth) at the festive table. The students also prepared a thematic exhibition displaying attributes of their national culture.

Eid al-Fitr once again became a celebration of unity, where congratulations and wishes for goodness and peace were expressed.
