4th of February - World Cancer Day

On 11^th of February 2026 senior teachers-curators of the Department of Foreign Languages, M.A. Matskevich, E.M. Savchuk, and E.M. Shevchik-Giris held an open discussion on "4th of February  – World Cancer Day" for the first year students’ groups 9, 10, and 11 of the Faculty for International Students.

Goals and objectives of the event:

1. To increase medical students' awareness of cancer, its symptoms, and prevention methods;

2. To distribute information that more than 40% of cancer cases can be prevented through proper nutrition, physical activity and quitting smoking.

3. To encourage regular screenings and medical examinations, as treatment in the early cancer stages is significantly more effective.

The students learned about the history of cancer research, which currently ranks second in the global mortality rate. The main focus was on disease prevention through lifestyle modification: giving up bad habits and a sedentary lifestyle, eating a balanced diet, eliminating harmful environmental factors, etc.
