Aishat Atifa Ali: "GrSMU is not just a university. It is a place where I found a second home"

My name is Aishath Atheefa Ali, and I am from the beautiful islands of the Maldives. In 2018, I embarked on a new chapter of my life by moving to Grodno to join the preparatory course. I chose Grodno State Medical University not only for its esteemed reputation but also for its balance of academic excellence and affordability. One of the most fascinating aspects of moving here was getting to witness the changing seasons specially coming from a country where it’s always summer.

GrSMU is more than just a place of study; it’s a community, a home, and a space that fosters growth beyond academics. My passion for literature has led me to multiple poetry contests, Olympiads and conferences across Belarus and internationally, where I have won multiple awards. In 2024, I had the privilege of representing the Maldives in the Student of the Faculty competition as well.

Beyond literature, I have also represented both my country and Grodno State Medical University on television programs like "Yes! But!"  and "A Look at Belarus", sharing my experiences as an international student.  Being far from home came with its challenges, but the many concerts and cultural festivals helped me feel connected and less homesick.

Additionally, I have taken on leadership roles, serving on the university Сouncil.

But what truly made these years unforgettable were the people. The friendships I’ve built here are ones I know will last a lifetime—connections that have seen me through late-night study sessions, shared successes, and the moments when I just needed someone to remind me to keep going. And then, there’s my family and friends back home—the ones who believed in me long before I believed in myself. My family, who quietly made sacrifices so I could chase my dreams, and my friends, who listened, encouraged, and stood by me through every challenge. None of this would have been possible without their unwavering love and support.

To future students of this university, my advice is simple: embrace every opportunity that comes your way. This institution offers far more than just academic knowledge—so don’t limit yourself to textbooks alone. Build friendships, forge meaningful connections, and immerse yourself in the experiences that shape both your personal and professional growth. Your time here is not just about earning a degree; it’s about becoming part of a vibrant community that will enrich your journey in ways you never imagined.

As I close this chapter, I’m deeply grateful—not just for the education, but for the experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. GrSMU has given me knowledge, growth, and a wealth of memories that I will carry with me forever.
