1962 – Department of Hospital Therapy
2012 – 1st Department of Internal Diseases

The Department of Hospital Therapy (since 2012 – the 1st Department of Internal Diseases) was established at the Grodno State Medical Institute in September 1962.
The first heads of the department were: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Pincus S.Sh. (1963–1971), and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Volkov N.F. (1971–2001).

From 2001 to 2020, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Pyrochkin V.M., author of more than 350 scientific papers and monographs, over 20 textbooks, 8 patents for inventions, and more than 10 official medical instructions approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. Under his supervision, 6 Ph.D. theses were defended.
Professor Pyrochkin V.M. was awarded the badge “Excellent Worker of Health Care” (2005), serves as Chairman of the Grodno Regional Society of Physicians, a member of the Presidium of the Belarusian Scientific Society of Cardiologists and Therapists, a member of the Dissertation Council at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center “Cardiology”, and Chairman of the Special Council for Ph.D. Dissertations in Cardiology and Internal Diseases at the Grodno State Medical University.

Since 2020, the head of the department has been Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Mikhail S. Deshko.
